Support Ana Fuentes Palmisano and Donald J. Palmisano, Jr. as he runs 100 miles for education of DREAMers at the Centro Hispano Marista

Goal: $10,000

Whether you are Republican or Democrat, members of both parties understand the plight of these children who are now young adults. This is not a political issue but a fairness issue for people who only know living in the United States.  As you know, I have previously run races in my capacity as the chief executive officer of the Medical Association of Georgia to raise money for opioid abuse and distracted driving – causes I wholeheartedly believe in and support.  My previous races have raised over $65,000 for these worthy causes due to the overwhelming support of all the donors.  Here is another worthy cause that directly impact the lives of these young adults and I firmly support.

We are asking you to support Ana and I with a tax-deductible donation when we participate in the 100-mile Antelope Canyon trail run in Arizona on March 9th-10th to raise funds for the Centro Hispano Marista, also referred to as Centro. Centro offers affordable, bilingual, GED preparation for adults. I am running the 100 mile race and Ana is running her first 13.1 trail race. Our son Diego will be running as well.

Centro was founded to serve DREAMers to apply for DACA. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a program that protects from removal and offers employment authorization to individuals that meet the following regulations: (1) entered the United States before their 16th birthday, (2) have resided continuously in the United States since June 15, 2012, (3) had no lawful status on June 15, 2012, (4) had a high school diploma, GED or are currently enrolled in school; and (5) have no significant criminal history. In the aftermath of the adoption of DACA many fraudulent programs arose that simply took the money of the hopeful applicants but provided no diploma in return.  Other programs simply would not accept students who are not currently U.S. citizens—a problem to aspiring DREAMers. Centro has filled that void by providing a low tuition ($100/semester) GED preparation with a volunteer-based program since 2012. Two-hundred and forty-five students have graduated from the program.

We are hoping to raise $10,000 for the Centro to sponsor 100 students by closing the gap between cost and tuition. Centro relies on donations to keep offering this program. Donors will be recognized on various social media outlets.

To donate using a credit or debit card, click on the link below.  You can also donate by mailing a check that is made payable to Marist School (memo Centro Hispano Marista) to 3790 Ashford Dunwoody Road, NE, Atlanta GA 30319. Thank you for your support!
